Teeth Cleaning Procedure

Going to the dentist for a teeth cleaning procedure can be done with just one appointment. Ultrasonic cleaning equipment was developed to clean teeth better and faster. Using ultrasonic teeth cleaning procedures dentists can clean more of the tooth’s surface. It can reach places between the teeth and just under the gum line to remove plaque and other particles and germs. Cleaning teeth with ultrasonic equipment is painless. After ultrasonic cleaning, a rotary machine, similar to a dremmel tool, applies a paste that removes even more plaque, polishes and coats the teeth to prevent plaque buildup. After the polishing, the dentist will floss to insure that all particles are removed from between the teeth.  During the teeth cleaning procedure, the dentist will keep an eye out for potential tooth decay or signs of gum disease. If any sign of a problem is detected, measures will be taken to correct any problem either with follow-up visits, or in some cases, they can be attended to the same day.

Teeth Whitening Process

While you are getting a good cleaning, you and your dentist might discuss the teeth whitening process. The best time to have a teeth whitening process is after a cleaning. All plaque and cavities should be tended to before whitening. The dentist will polish and dry the teeth before applying the whitening solution. A protective shield will be put along the gum line to keep the solution from irritating the gums. The dentist may have to use retractors to keep the inside of the mouth from getting in contact with the solution and keep saliva from getting on the teeth during the process. Once the teeth and mouth are prepared, the whitening solution is applied to the teeth. The bleaching agent is a solution typically made with hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide. A laser light is then used to activate the solution and begin the bleaching. Leaving the solution on the teeth for a half an hour to an hour will dramatically whiten teeth. I the desired whiteness is not achieved, the process may be done again. Once the teeth are as white as you like, the teeth are rinsed well with water. Fluoride may be followed up if the teeth are sensitive after whitening.
