Cosmetic Dentistry Insurance – Is There Such A Thing?

The last time you paid a visit to the dentist, chances are that you either had a tooth removed, a cavity filled or a routine cleaning. Your visit may not have warranted any other procedures, although there are times when you could either be referred to a dentist to perform a cosmetic procedure and you have to check to see if you actually have a cosmetic dentistry insurance policy. If you thought for one fleeting moment that this kind of surgery was limited to people who were just trying to look their best and had large amounts of money, you would be wrong.

When you are ready to choose a dentist to handle your  cosmetic work, you will need to make sure that you have a cosmetic dentistry insurance policy/rider and whether they deal with your insurance company. Of course you will need to verify that the dentist has the necessary experience to handle your particular case. Keep in mind that this is your mouth that you are dealing with and it needs to be perfect.
One reason for needing cosmetic dentistry is due to an accident and that can come in the form of a bicycle, motorbike or an automobile. After having your teeth knocked out of your mouth, you will either need to consider paying cash for the repair job, or your cosmetic dentistry insurance coverage will need to kick into gear. There are instances where your auto insurance policy will pick up the slack, but that may require a little bit of urging.
Thankfully, the average visit to the dentist who specializes in cosmetic procedures will have nothing to do with a broken jaw, or shattered teeth.  What this means is simple, unless you are by no means stressing about finances, you will need to contact the relevant people to see if in fact you do have cosmetic dentistry insurance coverage as a policy or a rider. Your visit may in fact be all about a makeover, or something else like a tooth whitening procedure to get rid of those nicotine stains.

Before agreeing to any cosmetic procedure, it is a good idea to contact your insurance company and ask the question, “does dental insurance cover cosmetic dentistry?” In many cases, the answer will be in the negative and the patient will need to think about other options. Does this mean that there is no way that an insurance company will entertain paying a claim to one of their clients, no it does not. If the procedure is medically necessary, then the claim would probably be approved, at least partially anyway.

If you need dental implants, you may once again be forced to ask your dental office the question, “does dental insurance cover cosmetic dentistry for implants” The answer will once again be a no! As it stands, most cosmetic dentistry is not covered by dental insurance and it will probably be that way for a while. In most cases, the procedure is important enough to warrant the patient securing a personal loan or paying cash (out-of-pocket) in order to have it done.
